Of all the States in the Union, California has the most debt: $118 billion. In 2017, a whopping 4 million people in California were on food stamps - the highest number in the country. Over 25% of America's homeless population lives in California and, in Los Angeles alone, it is estimated that 55,000 people are homeless.
Meanwhile, California's tech industry - 'Silicon Valley' - contributes so much revenue, its economy rivals some of the strongest economies in the world.
Through this polarity, California resembles India, with its booming tech industry and humanitarian nightmare, where 77% of the population lives in "slum-like conditions" and around 5.7 million people have AIDS.
