On the 30th of January, the cruise ship Wilhelm Gustloff sank off the coast of Norway, taking 9,400 evacuated refugees with it. The year was 1945. This tremendous loss of life is generally unacknowledged because the victims were German. Today, we acknowledge their avoidable passing.
